INTRODUCTION.

Though baptism has been used before Christ, he formally established as a public testimony of Christian discipleship.

1. Institution of baptism.

1. Before his ascension, what great commission Jesus gave to his disciples? Matthew 28:18, 19.
"And Jesus came and spake unto them saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and on earth." Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father and the Son, and Holy Spirit. "

2. What Jesus established relationship between baptism and salvation? Mark 16:15, 16.
" And he said 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be damned ".

2. Form of Baptism.

1. What does the word" Baptism "?
Answer:
comes from baptizo Greek, meaning "immersion".

2. Where were submerged those whom John baptized? Matthew 3:6.
"and were baptized by him in Jordan, confessing their sins."

Note: literally should be translated: "And they were immersed by him in Jordan."

3. How was Jesus baptized? Matthew 3:13, 16.
"Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him [...] And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up out of the water and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. "

Note: can be translated as "came out of the water." If it had not been baptized by immersion, it would have taken a place with plenty of water. In any case, Jesus "went" up the water where he was baptized, that is submerged.

4. Why John was baptizing in Enon? John 3:23.
"John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there: and they came and were baptized."

Note: John always baptized (immersed) where there was rushing waters.

5. What was dubbed the official of Queen Candace? Acts 8:36 - 39.
"And as he journeyed, came to some water and the eunuch said, here is water, what hinders me from being baptized? Philip said, If you believe with all my heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot, and down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch and he baptized him. When the water rose, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more, and went his way rejoicing. "

Note: Baptism by immersion was correctly understood by the Ethiopian eunuch, and not requested water baptism until he saw enough to submerge.

6. How long was used in the Catholic Church by baptism immersion?
Answer:
In the Roman Catholic Church (the West) until the twelfth century was practiced baptism by immersion. In fact, in Italy you can visit Catholic churches of that era that have Length baptistry. In the Orthodox Church of the East, is still practiced today.

3. What conditions are mentioned for the reception of baptism?

1. What is the first thing to be done? Acts 2:38.
"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Note: Baptism is an outward symbol of death and spiritual resurrection. It symbolizes a new birth. But this symbol is useless if there has been no prior personal rebirth, repentance from evil works, habits or customs that we had before meeting Jesus.

2. What you need to know? Matthew 28:19, 20.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you every day, until the end of the world. Amen. "

Note: Many people want to baptize driven by specific emotions. However, it is a commitment to God, many personal and profound. You need to know what God asked us to guardásemos, expressed in His Word. It is therefore necessary, at least follow a Bible study guide like this (for example) to understand the scope of our commitment to God.

3. What else is needed? Mark 16:16.
"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be damned."

Note: believe is essential. Believing is not just a mere intellectual acceptance of the divine teachings, but a consistent and accepted practice, which implies full trust in God and His providence in our lives, in line with our consistent behavior in this regard. I can say "I love God" but with my actions I can be denied such a thing. Both issues should go hand in hand. Hence the words of Jesus: "If ye love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15).

4. What condition is it? Matthew 28:20.
"Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

Note: Prior to the baptism must have a reasonable period (several months) where you can prove that the person really wants to be baptized lives according to biblical teachings. Occasionally there may be situations such as the Ethiopian eunuch, however it is understood that this person knew the truth, it took only point out a couple of issues, so his path was already more than demonstrated.

This example does not justify the practice of some fast baptisms excusing people who make decisions based on emotion rather than true understanding of the baptismal ceremony and prerequisites.

4. Meaning of baptism.

1. What replaced the baptism ceremony? Colossians 2:10 - 12.
"And ye are complete in him, who is the head of all principality and power. In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting you the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ, buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through faith in the power of God who raised Him from the dead. "

Note: Circumcision was a symbol of "separation" to God (hence the cut or incision). Now the baptism took the place of circumcision, having a deeper meaning, going beyond the "remove" someone to God, being now the "new birth" from God and for God.

2. Before anyone can see the kingdom of God, what is needed?

John 3:3 "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born again he can not see the kingdom of God."

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if anyone is in Christ a new creature: old things are passed away, behold all things are become new."

Note: The new birth is a fitting symbol. Baptism represents a new opportunity, a fresh start with new values \u200b\u200band commitments. It's like being born again, become a new person.

3. What symbolizes, then, the baptism?

John 3:5 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and the Spirit, he can not enter the kingdom of God."

Titus 3:5 "He saved us not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit."

Note: is the public and external manifestation of an inner change, a new birth and regeneration through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

4. What is symbolized our death to sin and resurrection to new life? Romans 6:1 - 4.
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? In any way. We who died to sin, how we live in it, or do not know that we have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death we were buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. "

Note: Being immersed (baptized) is a symbol of being buried as if we died, died to sin, to life prior to knowing God. Upon exiting the water (up, as John says about the baptism of Jesus) is a symbol of resurrection, rebirth to a new life.

5. How is it compared to enter the Ark of Noah with the entry into the church? 1 Peter 3:20, 21.
"Those who once were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah while the ark was preparing, wherein few people, that is, eight souls were saved by water. Baptism corresponding also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. "

Note: I emphasize the word" aspiration "in the text above. It fell into the opposite error precipitated baptism, thinking that there must be" perfect " for baptism. We must have evidence that God is working in our life, we have experienced a change, but we can not say at any time "and I got it." In this new life experience, show evidence of change, but also demonstrate that aspire or desire to live ever more in line with the divine. Baptism is not a goal, it's a start, the beginning of the Christian life. However, we must see that road is starting to be sure that the conversion is genuine.

6. What happens to belong body that has been baptized?

1 Corinthians 12:13 "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink into one Spirit."

Colossians 1:18 "And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that all have the preeminence."

Note: In the Bible, the Church of Christ is symbolized as a "body."

7. Who are coated that have been baptized?
Galatians 3:27 "For all who have been baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." -------------
